Pearl
Orient TV Tower
You'll either love or loathe this futuristic tower, completed in 1995, and one of Asia's
tallest buildings. 1535 feet of concrete tubing and ruby glass spheres house cafés,
restaurants and a hotel. A basic ticket will
get you almost to the top of the tower for an unmissable view of Shanghai; on clear
days you can see all the way to Chongming Island in the mouth of the
Yangtze.

Former Residence of Dr Sun
Yat-Sen
Dr Sun Yat-Sen is regarded as the father of modern China. Between founding the Kuomintang
Republican Party in 1905 and dying in 1928, Yat-Sen sought to replace the Manchurian Qing
Dynasty with democratic government. His large suburban house in the French Concession has
been faithfully preserved and will appeal to lovers of antique furniture and period décor
as much ashistory buffs. The doctor's personal belongings, his book collection,
furnishings and paintings remain perfectly intact; it's as though he's just
popped out to make a house call. Guides issue plastic shoe-coverings to protect the
original carpets before whisking you from room to room as a brief taped commentary
explains the history of the man and the house.
